Thelonious Monk
It is hard to pick a favorite Thelonious Monk album, but "Underground," "Alone in San Francisco" and "Straight, No Chaser" are each sublime and distinctive. I think Saul Williams described Monk as having the ability to capture the "twilight" of the beat. The attached video was made in conjunction with the recent first time release of Monk's lost soundtrack for Roger Vadim's risque film, Les Liasons Dangereuses.
